HGV training in progress

What is Driver CPC (Periodic) Training?

Driver CPC (Periodic) Training is the ongoing professional development requirement for HGV and bus drivers. Every qualified professional driver must complete 35 hours of approved periodic training every 5 years to maintain their Driver Qualification Card (DQC) β€” without which they cannot legally drive commercially.

The 35 hours are typically completed as individual one-day (7-hour) training sessions, spread across the 5-year cycle at times that suit you and your employer.

Why Keep Your DQC Up to Date?

  • βœ“ Legal requirement β€” driving commercially without a valid DQC is an offence
  • βœ“ DVSA enforcement β€” roadside checks include DQC verification
  • βœ“ Employment requirement β€” no compliant employer will allow an expired DQC
  • βœ“ Keeps skills current β€” covers key topics like road safety, tachograph rules and health

Training Topics Available

We offer a wide range of approved course topics to count towards your 35 hours:

Road Safety & Eco Driving
Tachograph Rules & Drivers' Hours
