Find the same course cheaper elsewhere? We'll match it. Our direct relationships with training providers mean no inflated prices — just honest, competitive rates every time.
We don't take commission and we never add admin fees on top of course prices. What you're quoted is exactly what you pay — completely transparent, every time.

"I was nervous about returning to training after 10 years away from formal education. The instructors at Enfield were incredibly patient and professional. I passed my Cat C on the first attempt and landed a job with a logistics firm within two weeks."
"I was made redundant and needed a career change quickly. Southern HGV Training helped me find funding through the Skills Bootcamp scheme, trained me in Cat C and CE within three weeks, and helped me find a job paying £42,000. Life-changing."
"The Bar Hill centre was perfect for me — modern trucks, great instructors and very flexible scheduling. I trained around my current job and passed first time. The admin team sorted all my paperwork. Couldn't recommend them more highly."
Everything you need to know about getting your HGV licence with Southern HGV Training.
Costs vary depending on your chosen course and level of prior experience. Category C training typically starts from £1,500–£2,500, while a full Cat C + CE + CPC package is typically £3,000–£5,000. We offer flexible payment plans and interest-free finance options, and can help you access Skills Bootcamp funding which may cover the full cost. Contact us for a personalised quote.
With our intensive programmes, most trainees complete Category C in 1–2 weeks of training, plus time for the DVLA medical and theory tests beforehand. Category CE can be added in a further 1–2 weeks. Total time from starting the process to holding your licence is typically 4–8 weeks, depending on test slot availability and your starting point.
You must pass a DVLA Group 2 medical examination (completed on a D4 form) before driving on a provisional HGV entitlement. Your GP can conduct this, or we can refer you to an approved medical practitioner. Conditions such as well-controlled diabetes or previous heart issues are not automatically disqualifying — we'll guide you through the process.
Category C covers rigid HGV vehicles over 7.5 tonnes (e.g. curtainsiders, tippers, tankers). Category CE adds the entitlement to drive articulated lorries (artics) with a trailer — the vehicles you see most on motorways. Cat CE commands the highest driver pay and opens the most job opportunities. You must hold Category C before training for CE.

The UK is experiencing a significant shortage of qualified HGV drivers, making the job market extremely favourable. Starting salaries for Cat C drivers are typically £28,000–£35,000, while Cat CE (artic) drivers commonly earn £35,000–£52,000+ — with higher rates for nights, weekends and specialist loads. Many of our graduates receive job offers before completing their training.
Yes. You need to pass the HGV theory test (multiple choice) and hazard perception test before sitting your practical driving test. However, you can begin practical training while your theory test is booked — we'll provide study materials and mock tests to help you prepare. The theory test is taken online at a DVSA test centre.
Yes — a full Category B (car) driving licence is all you need to start HGV training. You don't need any prior lorry or van experience. We accept trainees from all backgrounds, including career changers, school leavers with a full car licence, and existing drivers looking to upskill.
